An awesome event for those who would like to get experience building their own 2D video game with a game engine. In this two hour workshop you will be introduced to game design and programming concepts and the game engine tools we use to make programming video games simple. Each student will have their own identical computer workstation set up in a professional meeting room designed for presentations. You will have everything you need to make a video game already waiting for you – all you have to do is show up!
The engine for this workshop is GameMaker Studio which has features designed primarily for 2D game design rather than 3D which is the focus of many commercial engines. GameMaker has a free version which can be used at home to further edit game projects from the lesson and customize your game. When you attend one workshop later lessons expand on that project and teach increasingly more advanced concepts.
What you get:
When you attend a workshop hosted by the Game Development Guild you don’t just get to attend the workshop and nothing more! We help you retain the information by giving you access to an online course containing the same information and project you learned about in the workshop. After your first workshop you get two online courses instead of one. This lets you practice with multiple projects and get a more in-depth introduction to using the game engine interface.
You can access videos, a text walk-through with images and quizzes to help you fully understand what you did and how the various actions all led to the functioning game. You also get a space game asset pack with 10 ship images, 10 spinning planet animations and other backgrounds that will make it easy for you to go home and start making an awesome project! The courses and asset pack alone are another $30 value!
The Game Development Guild is registered to perform with the Denver public library system and has presented at multiple libraries and held classes with groups of students in several maker-spaces and computer labs. The instructor has been background screened and has experience teaching these lessons to dozens of students – some as young as 10 years old. Our lessons take place in a safe, professional environment that is quiet and great for learning! If you have any questions or would like references, etc. please feel free to contact us at the event phone number listed or by email at email@example.com.
I can’t wait to see you there! Here are some reactions and feedback from students who have taken this course previously:
