This is an advanced, spoiler-free review for the Cobra Kai Season 2 premiere out of SXSW. You can stream all 10 episodes on YouTube Premium on Wednesday, April 24, 2019.
Mr. Miyagi once said, “Never put passion in front of principle – even if you win, you’ll lose.” In the Season 2 premiere of Cobra Kai, both Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) are in danger of giving in to their passions, instead of focusing on the principles that make them good people. That’s right, even the arrogant bully from the ’80s has hope for redemption here. Johnny’s arc was one of the unexpected high points during the first season, and thankfully, creators Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald continue to delve into Johnny’s psyche, with the help of his former sensei, John Kreese (Martin Cove) joining the ensemble.
